The first ten days of the 24 Day Challenge was surprisingly easy. I don’t know about you but, when I hear the word “cleanse” I think of starvation and drinking something nasty. That’s the way many of them go. No food whatsoever and a lemon, cayenne, salt water and molasses concoction to clean you out. I was not hungry at all during the herbal cleanse and the fiber drink tasted really good. It was all about eating clean, not starving. It helped me create some new habits and learn more about eating healthy on the go.
I started day one out with a fiber drink first thing in the morning. My friend Brady, who is guiding me on this journey, warned me not to let the fiber drink set too long or it would thicken up. That had me worried it wouldn’t taste very good and I’d have to choke it down. Luckily, that wasn’t the case. It is lemon flavored and tasted really good. It was also filling but, I still ate a light breakfast with it. I drank spark on my hour drive to work which is when I used to drink my morning coffee. I had a light snack and another spark around 9am. The spark has been a life saver in and of itself. I have stopped drinking coffee completely and I feel energized and a lot healthier. I’m not dragging all day while guzzling coffee and I’m not tired when I get home from work. It’s like taking a pack of vitamins that give you energy. I will definitely continue to drink spark after this challenge is over regardless of the results. So far I like all the flavors I’ve tried but, I think the fruit punch is my favorite.
The best part about this experience so far, is simply learning about what good, healthy food is available when you are on the go. I plan to follow a healthy diet for life, not just 24 days. Brady was a huge help with this, which is another great aspect of Advocare (advocates for care). You get the support of an actual human being who wants you to succeed. Brady took the time to send me pictures of healthy and good tasting food from his kitchen. I went the store with my iphone in hand and found the exact foods he sent me. Quality protein and vegetables were easy. Quality carbohydrates were a little more difficult for me. I’m not a big fan of oatmeal and don’t have time to cook brown rice. Brady directed me to oatmeal medley’s that have fruit and nuts in them. I found a couple I really liked and they only take a minute in the microwave. Uncle Ben’s individual brown rice cups were another quick and easy option I enjoyed. My greatest discovery was the lite raspberry walnut vinaigrette I bought for salads. I ended up putting it on everything. It’s awesome. Some of my friends at work and my wife got addicted to it so, now I have to buy it in bulk to get some before it’s gone. My wife cooked a lot of chicken and fish I could take on the go and we boiled some eggs for breakfast and snacks. Almonds were my favorite snack between meals but, Brady gave me several options to chose from and the 24 Day Challenge Guide also had plenty of food suggestions for each category.
Results of the Cleanse Phase
I lost 3.5 pounds without being hungry or changing my activity level. I have a lot more energy and feel a lot better. I can’t say for sure that all comes from the Advocare products because, eating clean and healthy and quitting coffee probably had a lot to do with it. I do believe I couldn’t have done it without the energy from the spark. I definitely plan to stay away from coffee when this is finished. I’ve started the Max Phase of the challenge. I’ll let you know how it goes.
